"Minneapolis History and Landmarks Tour"

This tour, undertaken first at our 40th Reunion and repeated for us and other classes, focuses on the landmarks of the city with which we were familiar as youth: south Minneapolis, the Chain of Lakes, downtown, Minnehaha Creek, the Mississippi River, the Falls of St Anthony and with the running commentary of the splendid Washburn Family of our eponymous high school. We make three or four stops along the route in a luxury coach. The tour is led by Rolf Svendsen, who was commissioned to write the Bicentennial History of Hennepin County. A tour map and handbook are included for participants' reference.

"Minneapolis Fine Arts Tour"

Led by Coleen Murphy, this tour visits three of the treasures of Minneapolis' many art museums and docent narrated tours of the galleries and grounds.

  1. The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, a joint venture of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and the Walker Art Center. This exceptional display includes large works by Henry Moore, Alexander Calder, Robert Indiana, George Segal, and the famous Cherry on a Spoon by Claes Oldenburg. A true photo op!

  2. The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, (MIA) "..the finest collection of art between Chicago and Tokyo..." will be docent led and feature the highlights of the MIA including paintings and period rooms.

  3. The Museum of Russian Art (TMORA). Iowa natives Raymond and Susan Johnson's collection, plus the 5,000 pieces in TMORA's collection make this the largest collection of Russian art outside of Russia.
Of special interest will be the current exhibit, "The Body in Russian Art" andan exhibit of Ukrainian costume which will be open the day of our tour. This exceptional museum housed in the building known to us in our youth as Mayflower Congregational Church is highly accessible and a jewel of the art scene in Minneapolis. This wisit will lso be docent led.
